DIVE IN | ALDARA ORTEGA | THE WORKS
Galerie l'Atelier presents the photography exhibition "DIVE IN" by Aldara Ortega in their Chelsea space in New York City. The show features a collection of female underwater portraits. Through a submerged feminine eye, we are presented with unique stories from four diverse women.
Aldara Ortega takes us down to the depths of the waters and uses that underwater moment to create unique connections. With her camera, she captures the story of her muses and their particular essence through their actions.
In the photos, the interaction between women and water becomes a dance, underlined by the whirling fabric. Ortega looks at the female body as an energy of life, as they become aware of the present moment freed by the water element.
Aldara Ortega, a self taught photographer based in New York City, over a decade ago, she began experimenting with the underwater world to find an escape from urban life. Her work is a visual journey of self-discovery, freedom and pure expression of the body, mind, and heart. It is the result of the transformational experience of being submerged in water, letting go and reconnecting with the raw, liberated, inner self.
Through her underwater portraits of women, she builds an intricate storyline of personal narratives offering the viewer glimpses of her personal search to honor the feminine. She invites you to intimately connect with the work and elicit feelings of strength, boldness, sensuality, liberation and empowerment.
"Plunging into an underwater world, I allow the inherent power to take over and start to explore. Submerged, my photography brings this exploration to life focusing on the strength and beauty of feminine energy, celebrating women and their bodies. I invite the viewer to connect with me, be present in the moment, perceive things differently and appreciate light, motion and feeling."
The four diverse women featured each have a unique story to tell. The time Aldara spends with each of them is limited and requires a personal, sacred and spontaneous connection that results in the beautiful images.
Thank you to Priscilla Monnier, classical ballet dancer; Ewa Miller, professional sailor; Amanda MacCornick, contemporary dancer and yogi; and Danna Abrassart, performance artist and aerialist for their participation. Aldara is grateful for the collaboration as part of her passion is to bring women together through her art.
